Tomorrow, April 21, is National Poem in Your Pocket Day, and we’re celebrating here in Jacksonville! Keep your favorite poem in your pocket all day. Look for the bright little flyers floating around town and collect all 36 poems printed on the backs. Share them with people!
Most important, come out to our Poetry Scream at 6:30! Bring a blanket, grab a snack from Java Jolt, Mad Hatter, or Roma’s, and listen to more than a dozen of your friends and neighbors read classic, contemporary, and original poetry. If you’re brave, step up and read your own!
Here are a couple of my new and old favorites just to get you primed:
Can’t wait to see you.
April is National Poetry Writing Month (#NaPoWriMo), and Collective poets have taken up the challenge of writing 30 days of poetry to celebrate.
Here’s a taste of what some of them have been up to.
It’s not too late to join in! If you write even one new work, you’ve put something in the world that wasn’t there before. Try it, and let us know what you come up with.
We’ll be closing out the month with a Poetry Scream — original, classic, and modern poetry on on the Square in Jacksonville on April 21. Visit our events page for all the info. We hope to see you there!
