We were floored by the attendance and participation at Poe and Poetry last night! I don’t think we could have fit many more bodies in the house if we tried!
One of the goals of The Arts Collective Jacksonville is to foster creative community by providing opportunities to share creative work. That act of sharing takes guts, but it’s so worth it. When you read, perform, or exhibit, you are opening yourself up to creative growth. And you never know; you might be throwing a line to somebody — encouraging a budding artist, inspiring another poet, showing that girl over there in the corner that she isn’t alone in this mess, that there are other people out there who are willing to put themselves out there and say, “This matters.”
We had 13 writers share original poetry and fiction last night, and several more perform chilling, powerful readings of Poe and other poets’ works. That felt like creative community to me, y’all. Thank you, thank you, thank you to all who helped, read, and listened. And a very special thank you to everyone at Java Jolt for hosting us.
